Thinking of buying a Ford Escape? Hold off until the 2013 hits the street next spring. Debuting at this week’s L.A. Auto Show, the Escape will feature all-new sheet metal which looks much like a tall Ford Focus. It is. Most of the mechanicals come from Ford’s hot selling sedan, which means the Escape will have a European feel.
The Escape will be called the Kuga in Europe and will be nearly the same version it gets.The V6 option has been cancelled, but three engine choices will be available. The 2.5-liter four cylinder has been refined and makes 168 horsepower. A 1.4-liter turbo will give the best gas mileage in the class, according to Ford. A 1.6-liter turbo may be the hot ticket, making 237 horses.
Cadillac took the wraps off of its XTS sedan. It’s a bit more sedate than the CTS or even the SRX but its better looking than the banished DTS or STS cars. This is will compete with Audi’s sparkling A6 in size and price. The XTS features loads of equipment as standard and a boat-load of options. Ed Welburn, vice president of global design introduced the car to the press Wednesday.
Hyundai has now totally revamped its sedan offerings by reshaping the odd Azera to fit its current lineup. This will be the only non-Genesis Hyundai to offer a V6, which will make 293 horsepower and deliver 29 miles per gallon on the highway.
